POLITICO is hearing a lot of talk about four names — all women — in connection with the jobs: Germany’s Ursula von der Leyen staying on as Commission chief; Malta’s Roberta Metsola remaining in post at the Parliament; Mette Frederiksen, the current prime minister of Denmark, becoming president of the European Council; and Kaja Kallas, the Estonian PM, taking over as High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (the EU’s foreign policy chief, for short). This market is about four jobs:

  1. EU commission president

  2. EU parliament president

  3. European Council president (non-temporary)

  4. High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

All these jobs are up for a switch in this election year. They are not directly elected in June though, so it will take longer to resolve this.

Resolves NO immediately if one of these jobs is given to a man. For the sake of the resolution, I'll also count non-binary or whatever as women.

Resolves YES if all four jobs are given to women.

A temporary assignment does not count. Especially, the European Council president (currently Charles Michel) might get an interim successor. It needs to be intended for over one year.

Close date might be extended.

Probably a NO since António Costa, a man, is slated to become the next European Council president.

predictedNO

Charles Michel just announced he will stay European Council president until the end of his term. Since that is in November this year, a YES is still possible.
