I will not trade on this market, I will not provide insider advantages to friends, and I can provide concrete evidence of completion by way of runalyze (see below).
Question resolves YES if I run 5 kilometres (continuously) under 20 minutes (20:00.00 would be too slow) before 2025.05.10 (YYYY-MM-DD) 00:00 (UTC+2) and that activity is recorded on runalyze.
This might happen during a time trial, not necessarily in a race.
I had to stop running for a while and lost all my fitness (which wasn't that great to begin with), I want to get it back and then some. I have never run a sub-20 5k before. As no one around me cares or knows about running, this is my way of adding some extra motivation through internet strangers.
Some helpful data for prediction:
I am 27 years old, male,
with a normal BMI (I lift and I don't want to sacrifice all my muscles for running)
asthmatic (around 70% of reference lung function according to recent (~1 year) spirometry).
I'm extremely motivated, but I also have a full-time job.
You can see my complete (and automatically updated) running history since I got a Garmin (~1 year): https://runalyze.com/athlete/koadma
@koadma I think you probably have this, if you train enough.
Here's one vo2max to running time conversion table that I'm familiar with.

This has been fairly accurate for me, at least for shorter distances -- i.e. I measured 53 (mL O2/kg/min) on a treadmill test and my best ever 5k was about 19:00.
Not sure how accurate the vo2max estimates are in your software, but 20 mins seems within reach. (and vo2max can improve somewhat, with training and/or weight loss)
@PeterMillerc030 Thanks for the encouragement, I also think so (assuming I successfully endure the summer heat). I certainly won't give up now!
In my spreadsheets, I use Jack Daniels' VDOT tables which are roughly similar to yours, but they are copyrighted so I can't share them (and I also can't recommend illegal sites like Anna's Archive, Library Genesis, etc..).
I've found that in runalyze the column "VO2max" is fairly accurate when averaged over a longish time period and I often use it to visualize my progress. The column "VO2max (file)" is from Garmin and it's hilariously off (probably because my congenital sinus node abnormality throws off whatever bespoke AI model Garmin cooked up).
With respect to training, I plan to continue this unstructured, easy-ish running till July (and hopefully get used to around 64km weekly mileage and 6min/km easy pace) and then probably start Jack Daniels' Blue plan and do that in the remaining 4 months.
While I wasn't running, I was't lifting either yet I gained weight, so I can probably lose that. I plan to get down to 70kg over the easy running phase (I'm currently 73kg and 183cm) and see how I feel.
Also, your 5k time is really great!
I've never tried mixing Jack Daniel's and running, but I guess that could be interesting to try.
Also, your 5k time is really great!
was really great. Now I'm old and slow.
@koadma I see you've been running 10K's pretty consistently for the past month. Are you planning to attempt a 5K in the next week for this market?
@TimothyJohnson5c16 Sorry for answering a few days late. I either missed or did not receive a notification for your comment. (And it shows differently in my inbox)
I'm not sure yet. If I do, I will aim for around 25 min, so it's prob not relevant for this market.
OP has started running again! This is now very possible. Flipping my position to yes
