Andrew Yang ran but did not win the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 and the New York City Democratic mayoral primary in 2021. Since then he founded the Forward Party.
"elected" means Andrew Yang must obtain the office by running in an electoral campaign and winning an election.
"major US political office" includes all elected offices of the federal, state, and municipal governments of the United States, including but limited to: president, vice president, upper and lower chambers of federal and state government (senator, Representative), governor, mayor, as well as obscure state and local offices and resident commissioner of Puerto Rico - so long as there is an election for it and its unambiguously a formal government office, it counts.
The only chance Andrew Yang / Forward Party has of getting elected to something is if they have literal dog catcher elections in the Altered State of Drugachusetts.
@KevinBlaw This just in: the No Labels party has mocked the idea of Andrew Yang winning anything.
