Only 102 to go!

He will find a way to reach 1000. Fourth tier Portuguese league, if need be.

predictedYES

Yes

As impressive as Cristiano Ronaldo’s career has been, he will unfortunately most likely not reach the 1000 goals before he retires. By looking at his career statistics, it becomes clear that Ronaldo has an impressive .64 goals per 90 minute game. In his short time at Al-Nassr FC, his goal average per 90 minutes is .83. At this rate Cristiano Ronaldo would havve to play 176 games to reach the 100 goals, which equates to 5 seasons in the Saudi league. Furthermore, Ronaldo has stated that he wants to stay at Al-Nassr until 2027, which means he will not have enough time to score a 1000 goals before he retires.

@RamaPamudji *1000 goals

predictedYES

@RamaPamudji As of today, C. Ronaldo has scored 858 goals, 142 short of 1000. The argument says how many goals he will score before he retires. In his present club, Al Nasir, he has played 36 matches and scored 30 goals. I have indicated an interest in playing in the next World Cup in 2027 and Al Nasir till 2027, which means he will be playing for another four years. Christiano Ronaldo's average goal per season is approximately 55 goals across all competitions. It used to be higher, considering he is 38 years old. Presently, for the 2023 season, he already has 44 goals. The Portuguese player still maintains his status among the top-ranking scorers ever, even to date. With four years already assured for him to play and considering how many more years he plays afterward, I am confident he will surpass the 1000-goal mark set for this bet. Thus, I place a yes bet.

In 22 seasons, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 522 goals. The average amount of goals scored per 90 minutes is 0.87. To reach 1000 he would have to almost double his goals, something impossible since he doesn't have many seasons ahead of him. Even if he did, he would have to keep up the scoring pace of 0.87 goals per 90 mins, which is very hard as it is a number that was largely increased from his peak years at Real Madrid, where he scored 1.12 goals per 90 mins. Now, at 38 years old, he is playing at a less competitive league in Saudi Arabia, and after 24 matches he has scored 24 goals, resulting into one goal per game. This is close to the performance of his peak years, but it is unlikely he will keep playing for more than 2-3 years.

@KonstantinosTzermiasa3b2 I agree with the outcome of the analysis, although it underestimates Cristiano Ronaldo's career goals. As of 2023, Ronaldo has scored 858 goals in official matches, significantly more than the 522 mentioned. Despite this, the challenge of scoring an additional 142 goals to reach 1000 is challenging, especially considering Ronaldo's age of 38.

From my own analysis, I examined Ronaldo’s goal-scoring over the last five seasons using a weighted average approach, which accounts for the minutes played each season. This offers a truer representation of his goal-scoring effectiveness. I found that he had a weighted average goal rate of approximately 0.91 goals/90 minutes (Excel, manifold 1), indicating a decline from his peak years (1.48 goals/90 min).

To reach 1000 goals, assuming an optimistically stable rate of 1.34 goals/90 minutes (his current rate in a less competitive league), Ronaldo would require approximately 96 full games. However, this is an optimistic scenario, ignoring any potential downsides and injuries that come with aging. A more realistic view, taking into account any potential threats, would require him to play an additional three seasons at a professional level. In addition, the average retirement age for an elite men’s football player is between 32 and 34, therefore Ronaldo would push six years past this average (Sportsmonkie, 2023). A challenging prospect given the physical demands of professional football and typical career longevity.
