San Mateo County voters will vote on March 4, 2025 on Measure A, an amendment to the county charter to allow the Board of Supervisors to remove the sitting sheriff for cause. This measure will resolve YES if the amendment passes (by majority vote). If the amendment fails, the measure will resolve NO. If the election does not occur on March 4 or is otherwise invalidated, the measure will resolve NO.
The measure comes as the Board of Supervisors accuses Sheriff Christina Corpus of nepotism, retaliation and a toxic work environment.
The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors voted on Tuesday to hold a special election on March 4, 2025, amid a longstanding feud with Sheriff Christina Corpus.
The special election, which reportedly will cost millions of taxpayer dollars, will allow voters to decide on an amendment to the county charter that, if approved, would grant the board the power to remove a sitting sheriff "for cause, including for violation of law related to a Sheriff's duties, flagrant or repeated neglect of duties, misappropriation of public funds, willful falsification of documents, or obstructing an investigation." The measure was sponsored by Supervisors Noelia Corzo and Ray Mueller.
Some San Mateo County leaders on Wednesday placed their support behind a controversial ballot measure that could result in the removal of Sheriff Christina Corpus from office.
A "yes" vote on Measure A would give the county's board of supervisors the power to remove Corpus, an elected official, from office. A "no" vote would keep things as they are now.
