trolley problems aren't real. don't engage

The only right choice:

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice :^)

I need to know what the coefficients of relationship are :))

Trolley problem's a classic case,
To save one or five, what's the pace?
Moral dilemma, no easy trace,
But choose we must, in this rat race.

When does the market close?

@AdriaGarrigaAlonso ah dumb question, it's Dec 31 (2023)

Let's go guys, save 4 people

@Jotto999 But which option saves four people? This seems to be a market poll on what people assumptions about the scenario are convoluted with people's desire to make mana.

Neither the image nor the market description tell you what the consequences of pulling the switch or not pulling the switch are. Because we don't have sufficient information, we cannot be certain if action or inaction will make the situation worse.

Before springing into action, the prudent good Samaritan should probably verify what the appropriate course of action is.
@AmmonLam which track is the trolly car going to go down if no action is taken?

Maybe the the trolly car is moving very slowly and the moral response is to ignore the switch and untie or carry all six people to safety.

predictedYES

@ShitakiIntaki True, what if the switch is already directing the train to the path with one person, and pulling it causes five to die?

@ShitakiIntaki It's a good point, maybe the switch just drops an anvil on our head.

predictedYES

@ShitakiIntaki Although, I think that the name of the market actually rules out those possibilities. It's called "Trolley Problem Classic" implying that the switch does the same thing that it does in the classic trolley problem, and there are no added factors that would affect our moral consideration.

predictedYES

correct

@AmmonLam from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolley_problem, incase anyone is unfamilar with the specific of the Trolley Problem,
//
There is a runaway trolley barreling down the railway tracks. Ahead, on the tracks, there are five people tied up and unable to move. The trolley is headed straight for them. You are standing some distance off in the train yard, next to a lever. If you pull this lever, the trolley will switch to a different set of tracks. However, you notice that there is one person on the side track. You have two (and only two) options:

  1. Do nothing [i.e Resolve NO], in which case the trolley will kill the five people on the main track.

  2. Pull the lever [i.e. Resolve YES], diverting the trolley onto the side track where it will kill one person.

Which is the more ethical option? Or, more simply: What is the right thing to do?
