Food Tongue is a unique conlang (constructed language) invented by Math Camp students, where every word is a food (eg. "Orange carrot: Carrot grass eggs quiche grass pizza, cucumber gyro."). Unlike most conlangs, speakers are not allowed to publish direct dictionaries or translations between Food Tongue and English. Instead, to learn the language, one must slowly build up knowledge through illustrated examples, and Food Tongue pages which are themselves written in Food Tongue:

This requires many iterations of reasoning, where you learn a few words, use your knowledge to learn a few more words, and so on until you understand everything. This would take a human a few days, but is well beyond GPT-4. When will large language models be able to give passable translations of Food Tongue sentences, without any supporting work or reasoning being done manually by humans?

What happens if someone publishes a dictionary and an LLM is trained on it? Would that void the question?
