The Trump admin has been on an anti-EV campaign, most recently attempting to halt the $5 billion National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program that many charging-station operators have been counting on to help fund large portions of their expansion. It has long been rumored that Hyundai, Kia, etc will be able to access the network in Q1 2025, but that has yet to happen. New model Hyundai and Kia are being built with NACS ports, and other domestic manufacturers are planning to introduce them in 2025.
Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve based on which automakers have access to Tesla's Supercharger network as of December 31, 2025, 11:59 PM ET. Access can be through either:
Native NACS charging ports
Manufacturer-provided NACS adapters
Third-party adapters
For the "kneecap and close" option to resolve as YES, system-wide availability for 3 months and then systematic loss of availability for the foreseeable future is sufficient for it to resolve yes. Evidence of intent is not necessary.
The market will resolve N/A if:
Tesla is acquired by another company before the resolution date
Major regulatory changes force universal charging standards
The Supercharger network is spun off into a separate company
Considerations
The trend toward greater interoperability aligns with industry standards
Closing the network after opening it may face regulatory scrutiny, but there may also no longer be any regulatory agencies
